Neil Eccles
Senior Research Engineer
Neil has a degree in mathematics from Durham University and a Ph.D. from
the department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering at Loughborough
University.
During 12 years work at Rolls-Royce, Neil has gained extensive experience
in the CFD modelling of gas turbine combustion systems. As part of the
team tasked with responsibility for combustion CFD development, he has had
direct hands on experience of all aspects of CFD development including pre
and post processing, and solver development. During this time, the award
of a prestigious industrial fellowship from the Royal Commission for the
Exhibition of 1851, culminated in his Ph.D. focusing on reducing the
bottleneck often encountered when interfacing CAD and CFD systems for the
modelling of realistic complex engineering problems.
In 2001, Neil was appointed as a senior development engineer at Pointwise
Inc., based in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. During the next five years, he
developed many aspects of the company’s grid generation software as well
as being part of the lead development team for their next generation
commercial mesh generation system.
Having joined CFS in October 2006, Neil is currently focusing on the field
of Formula One aerodynamics and introducing the necessary tools required
to optimize and reduce the time required to perform a CFD simulation on a
multi-million node mesh. Simultaneously, CFS is harnessing the
significant international commercial software development experience he
has gathered in his varied career.
