Simon Harvey
Chief Software Architect
Simon has an MA and MEng from the
University of Cambridge, graduating with distinction
in 1998. His MEng work on the optimisation of turbine
geometries led to a PhD funded by Rolls-Royce and also
at Cambridge, researching the design and application
of an integrated turbomachinery optimiser.
The resulting software system harnessed
parallel computing resources, modern optimisation algorithms
and viscous CFD codes. The research culminated in the
automatic evolution of an innovative, highly 3D compressor
design which Simon successfully tested at the Whittle
Laboratory, demonstrating measurable improvements in
efficiency and off-design performance.
Having joined CFS in 2002, Simon
continues to pursue the opportunities of parallel computation
and systems integration and maintains ongoing interests
in computer graphics, visualisation and shape optimisation.
