MeshTools is a customised application that manipulates your CFD mesh to simulate mechanical variations and geometry changes.

It consists of a modularised toolkit which is assembled into a bespoke software tool for each application.

From one mesh it can quickly generate numerous variants, rapidly increasing solution throughput and cluster utilisation.

Manipulating your Mesh
The key to a sustainable CFD process is the efficient management of bottlenecks. At a time where more and more users are deploying very large clusters and migrating to 64-bit architectures, serial bottlenecks determine overall capability. There is limited scope for control where commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) vendors provide the tools: their objective is to meet the needs of a huge range of users. Those at the more technically demanding end of this spectrum may find themselves disadvantaged. Intelligent process management is the careful deployment of middleware to circumnavigate productivity issues while allowing trained operators to continue using familiar, validated software. MeshTools is one such tool from CFS that minimizes repetitive and expensive CAD-to-Mesh steps.

The action of capturing geometry from CAD is the prime bottleneck in most departments. The utilisation of CAD over the design cycle of complex products such as cars, aircraft and aero engines naturally lead to variations in working practices. These become a serious issue when it is time to prepare for CFD. It is absolutely critical not to disturb the CAD operation so the fix has to be found from within the CFD process; and there are many choices out there. Commercial CAD clean-up software gives users the choice between time consuming manual cleanup or an automated approach that will invariably distort the geometry. Doing this once for a given geometry can be as much as a budget will service. To do it many times to test multiple design configurations is often prohibitively expensive. MeshTools removes the need to revisit CAD in order to manipulate geometry. Suddenly, any kinematic configuration is possible, enabling a more flexible and thorough design and validation process.
